Organisers of the Paris Olympics issued a statement where they apologised for 'The Last Supper' parody which took place during the opening ceremony. The grand curtain raiser event was a first in Olympics history as it was held outside of a stadium but drew criticism from fans for a banquet sequence which featured drag artists and dancers. The segment came under criticism from several groups, including Christians, who condemned the same, stating that it was a mockery of the religion. Anne Deschamps, a spokesperson of the Olympics explained the meaning behind the sequence, stating it was to celebrate community tolerance. "If people have taken any offence we are really sorry," she added.
