Italian rising skiing star Matilde Lorenzi died at the age of 19 years after suffering from a fall during training. The youngster was training on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales when this accident took place. Matilde Lorenzi was taken to a hospital in Bolzano by a helicopter but the youngster failed to recover from her injuries. The 19-year-old had competed at the Junior World Alpine Ski Championships and was the Italian junior world champion. She was also linked to the Italian army. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation expressed condolences for Matilde Lorenzi's untimely demise. "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Matilde Lorenzi, as announced by the Italian Ministry of Defense, who conveyed heartfelt condolences for the 19-year-old athlete of the Italian Army," a part of their statement read.
