Chinas' Hou Zhihui stood tall and defended her gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Hou Zhihui broke the Olympic record in the clean and jerk category in the women's 49kg weightlifting event at the Paris Olympic Games 2024. Hou Zhihui lifted a total of 206kg including 89kg in snatch and 117kg in clean and jerk. Hou Zhihui came one point clean off Mihaela Cambei of Romania who clinched the silver medal. Thailand's Surodchana Khambao clinched the bronze medal after India's Mirabai Chanu fell short of a single point. Hou Zhihui was full of joy after she broke the Olympic record to seal the gold medal.
