Former Indian men's hockey team captain Dhanraj Pillay turned 56 today and Hockey India wished him on this special day. Born on 16 July 1968 in Pune, Pillay established himself as one of India's hockey's greatest players, having represented the country in four Olympics (1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004). Pillay made his debut in the year 1989 and played 400 international matches, scoring 170 goals. Along with the four Olympics, he competed in as many Hockey World Cups (1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002). He also led the nation to the gold medal in the 2003 Asia Cup. Pillay was honoured with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award in 1999-2000, which is the highest sporting honour in India.
