While winning a medal in the Olympics is difficult, winning two medals is even more difficult, and winning medals at both Men’s and Women’s Events is never heard or even thought of before. But it’s never ‘impossible’ in this world and Great Britain's Coxswain Henry Fieldman just proved the same. He won a medal in both categories - Women’s and Men’s becoming the first athlete to do so. The water sport athlete benefitted from a rule change back in 2016 from World Rowing that allowed coxes of either sex to steer the eights - the only boats that still use coxes at Olympic regattas. On Saturday, Fielding was the cox for Great Britain’s Women’s side who finished third winning him a bronze medal. He had previously taken bronze as the cox of the men’s eight at Tokyo. In Tokyo, two of the three medal-winning women’s eights were coxed by men. But Fieldman is the first cox to stand on the podium with crews of both sexes.
