The action was taken after France’s Olympic committee filed an appeal to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The athlete under scrutiny was Lloyd Hildebrand, who finished second for Britain in the men's 25km cycling race in Paris in 1900. However, after the appeal from the French committee and further investigation, the IOC found out that the cyclist was French and awarded the medal to the French team. IOC also released a statement confirming that the records in the history books will be corrected.
