Indian Football Team Loses 0-3 to Syria in Intercontinental Cup 2024; Heartbreak for Manolo Marquez's Blue Tigers as The Eagles of Qasioun Win Title
With this win, Syria won the Intercontinental Cup 2024 title as they secured victories in both their matches. India finished third in the three-team competition. The Blue Tigers remained winless under new head coach Manolo Marquez as they lost the title which they had won last year.
India suffered a 0-3 loss to Syria in the Intercontinental Cup 2024 with the visitors going on to win the title, at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium on Monday, September 9. Goals from Mahmoud Al Aswad, Daleho Irandust and Pablo Sabbag helped the The Eagles of Qasioun win the title with a win over the reigning champions. Mahmoud Al Aswad gave Syria the lead as early as in the seventh minute of the match. India were not able to find a leveller with the scoreline remaining in Syria's favour at half-time. India began the second-half with a lot of intent but were unable to find the equaliser. Syria then doubled their lead in the 76th minute when Daleho Irandust put the ball in the back of the net. That goal seemed to be the decisive blow as India were not able to pose a significant threat to the Syrian team apart from a few minutes at the end. Liston Colaco pulled off an excellent shot towards the end but the ball hit the post after a deflection off Syria goalkeeper Elias Hadaya. Pablo Sabbag then scored the third goal for Syria.
