Indian Football Team Lose 4-2 to Malaysia In Semifinal of Merdeka Tournament 2023 Amid Refereeing Controversy

Indian Football Team gets knocked out of the Merdeka Tournament 2023 after losing 4-2 to host Malaysia, who enter final to play against Tajikistan. The match was even with both teams playing open football and attacking frequently but it did not reflect on the scoreline because of the poor condition of the ground and India hitting two shots which hit the crossbar. One of India's goals were also ruled out as the referee disallowed it after conultation with linesman that the ball didn't cross the goalline. Replay showed that the ball as well over the goalline. Both Indian captain Sunil Chhetri and Indian coach Igor Stimac were not happy with referee's decision. India pushed Malaysia back during the dying minutes but failed to convert their chances. Malaysia on the other hand pounced on their opportunities and were clinical as they kept piling the lead and despite India equalising once through Naorem Mahesh Singh and then reducing the margin through Sunil Chhetri's penalty goal, failed to go past the finishing line.
