England advanced to the UEFA Euro 2024 semifinals with a penalty shootout victory over Switzerland in what was a hard-fought quarterfinal on Saturday, July 6. After a goalless first half, Switzerland took the lead after Breel Embolo found the back of the England net in the 75th minute. England seemed to be heading towards an exit from UEFA Euro 2024, but Bukayo Saka breathed life into this contest by equalizing for the Three Lions in the 80th minute. The match headed towards extra-time and even that was not enough to separate both teams. Eventually, England prevailed in the penalties after Jordan Pickford saved Manuel Akanji's shot, which was Switzerland's first attempt. Toni Kroos Retires From Professional Football With ‘Shattered’ Dreams After Germany’s Heartbreaking Exit From UEFA Euro 2024.
