India suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of Qatar in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier match played at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha. It was a do-or-die match for the Blue Tigers if they wished to move to the next round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers. However, the Gurpreet Singh Sandhu-led side are now out of contention for making it to the FIFA World Cup 2026. During the last minutes of the match when the Indian team led by 1-0. In the 73rd minute of the match, Qatar's  Yousef Aymen was able to score an equaliser after the ball clearly went out of play. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu had saved the ball which later turned into a corner for Qatar. In the end, Al-Hashmi played the ball back into the box, which was later pushed into a goal by Aymen. While the Qatar players started to celebrate, the Indian players went to the referee to explain that the ball was out of play.
