On expected lines, Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland, both of whom had terrific seasons behind them, lead the 30-man shortlist for the top award given by French football. However, one of the best and five-time winner of this award--Cristiano Ronaldo, has failed to make the cut for the first time in a long time. It is truly the end of an era. The women's nominations include UEFA Player of the Year and FIFA World Cup winner Aitana Bonmati, Australia's talisman Sam Kerr, Spain's FIFA Women's World Cup winning star Olga Carmona and England's Mary Earps among others.
