34 penalties were recorded in a qualifying match between Ajax and Panathinaikos, which is now a new record for UEFA competitions. The ‘mega-shoot-out’ surpassed the previous record of 32 attempts at the European U-21 Championship semi-final in 2007 where the Netherlands beat England 13-12. After winning the first leg of the competition, Ajax conceded a goal in the 89th minute. The match went into the shoot-out where Ajax claimed the victory after a 13-12 final score. Ajax keeper Remko Pasveer made five saves and scored on his own attempt to help the hosts win the shootout.
