Fans have for long, expressed their desire to watch the ex-CSK captain in action for another season and the chances of that seem to be high after the 'Uncapped Player' rule introduced by the IPL. In IPL 2024, MS Dhoni had batted very low down the order for CSK, leading many to think if it would be his last season.

The IPL governing council, a day ago, announced their retention rules and regulations ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and some fans spotted a unique MS Dhoni reference here as well. The IPL, in its set of rules, also talked about the 'Uncapped Player' category, among other others. According to this, a capped Indian player who has not played international cricket before the upcoming IPL or does not have a central contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) can be called an 'Uncapped Player.' Many fans were overjoyed as they thought that through this rule, MS Dhoni could be retained as an 'Uncapped Player' by Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Interestingly, this was also the seventh point on the list of IPL retention rules and fans flooded social media with 'Thala for a reason' posts after spotting the same.
