Unfortunately, Iyer lost the toss and his opposite number, Pat Cummins, opted to bat first. The KKR captain, however, seemed pleased with the call and stated that he had wanted to bowl first in this match. Earlier in IPL 2024, Iyer had kissed the coin before flipping it during the toss.
