The Sri Lankan cricket team, on this day in 2008, defeated India by a huge 100-run margin to win the Asia Cup, played in Karachi. Batting first, Sanath Jayasuriya powered Sri Lanka to 273 runs in 50 overs. In response, India, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, were bowled out for just 173 runs.
