Joe Root has scripted history at the Lord's Cricket Ground with yet another Test century during the England vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test 2024 on Saturday, August 31. The right-hander, arguably one of the best batters in red-ball cricket in the modern era struck his 34th Test century and went past Sir Alastair Cook, who had 33 to his name. Root now has the most number of Test hundreds by an England cricketer. He got to the mark off 111 balls, hitting 10 fours. He also has the most number of Test hundreds at a venue (seven, at Lord's) by an Englishman. The right-hander was eventually dismissed for 103 runs off 121 deliveries.
