India won the toss and skipper KL Rahul opted to bowl. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was making a comeback into the ODI side, got rid off Marnus Labuschagne in the 33rd over and bagged his first wicket of the match. However, it was KL Rahul who got lucky with the stumping. Labuschagne missed the reserve sweep and the ball hit Rahul's pad and crashed into the stumps.
