The 42-year-old will take charge of the Indian cricket team from the tour of Sri Lanka, which starts from July 27. Gautam Gambhir succeeds Rahul Dravid, whose stint as India head coach came to an end after June with the Men in Blue winning T20 World Cup 2024.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) posted an emotional video for Gautam Gambhir after the latter was named the new head coach of the Indian men's cricket team. Gambhir was a favourite to succeed Rahul Dravid for the role after the 51-year-old signed off with the T20 World Cup 2024 title win last month. And Gambhir's appointment was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCJ) secretary Jay Shah. The 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup winner thus leaves KKR, a side mentored to the IPL 2024 title earlier this year.
