Kane Williamson was hit by a throw while sprinting between the wickets during Friday's encounter against Bangladesh in Chennai, and an X-ray revealed that he had an undisplaced fracture to his left thumb. Williamson will stay with the New Zealand squad in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, hoping to be available for the matches towards the end of next month. To provide backup while Williamson heals from the injury, Wellington Firebirds batter Tom Blundell will go to India, albeit he won't be officially included in the team, as the official team list was already announced.  ‘Kane Williamson Soaked Up Some Pressure With His Knock’ Says Trent Boult on New Zealand Captain’s Triumphant Return From ACL Injury in NZ vs BAN ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
