Joe Root exchanged a warm hug with his father Matt Root as he walked off the pitch after scoring a historic century, during the England vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test 2024 at Lord's Cricket Ground on Saturday, August 31. The right-hander struck his 34th Test century, which took him past Sir Alastair Cook in the list of most Test hundreds for England. Root had scored a century in the first innings as well. The former captain eventually was dismissed for 103 runs off 121 balls, a knock which had 10 fours. And as he walked off the pitch, he hugged his father before making his way to the dressing room.
