A second-string Indian team led by Shubman Gill looked to usher in a new era in T20Is for the Men in Blue with the retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja but things went horribly wrong for the Indian cricket team. The bowlers managed to restrict Zimbabwe to just 115/9 but the batting never gained any sort of momentum whatsoever, as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Barring Shubman Gill (31) and Washington Sundar (27) and a cameo from Avesh Khan, the Team India batters failed to make a mark. Eventually, India suffered a 13-run loss in the series opener.
