The news of Anshuman Gaekwad came to light when the former India cricketer Sandeep Patil mentioned his meeting with the player at King's College Hospital in London. Patil stated in his column that Anshuman informed him about his need for financial support for the treatment. He asked BCCI to help out the former Cricketer who is 71 now and battling cancer. Anshuman Gaekwad represented the India National Cricket Team from 1975 to 1987 and played in 40 Tests and 15 ODI (One Day Internationals). He also coached the national side from 2000 to 2001 and led the Indian side to the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy silver medal.
