Essex has denied all the rumours that Alastair Cook will retire from cricket at the end of the current County Championship 2023 season. In a statement on social media, the club played down reports on Cook's retirement and stated that the former England captain would be discussing his future at the end of the ongoing season. The southpaw has been an influential figure for the Essex side and has been playing for them since his retirement from international cricket, featuring in 62 first-class games during the past five seasons and averaging 42.67 with 11 centuries, while also being a part of teams that won the County Championship and the Bob Willis Trophy in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
