The largest upset of the ICC World Cup 2023 thus far saw Afghanistan overcome the reigning champions England by 69 runs. In 40.3 overs, England were all out for 215 runs while chasing a target of 285 runs. Afghan hitters were in top form as Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashed 80 runs off 57 balls and Ikram Alikhil scored 58 of 66 balls. The innings from Afghan batters were too strong for any English batter to match, with the exception of Harry Brook (66) and Dawid Malan (32). For Afghanistan, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman each took three wickets. Mohammad Nabi claimed two wickets and Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi each claimed one.
