Dinesh Chandimal had to retire hurt with a lot of pain after he suffered a blow to his right thumb from a fiery delivery by Mark Wood on Day 3 of the England vs Sri Lanka 1st Test 2024. This incident happened in the 18th over of the third innings when a 149kph delivery from the right-arm pacer struck Chandimal on his right thumb as he was trying to hit it on the leg side. The right-hander, who was batting on 10 runs, was attended to by medical personnel on the field. Later, he could not continue and had to leave the field. In the first innings, Chandimal was undone by a delivery from Shoaib Bashir which hardly bounced and struck him near his ankle.
