This is a big blow for the Proteas ahead of the marquee tournament as they would now have to compete without one of their premier fast bowlers in Anrich Nortje. South Africa begin their ICC World Cup 2023 campaign against Sri Lanka on September 7.
In a massive blow for South Africa, Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala have been ruled out of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 with injuries. Norjte, named in the initial squad for the marquee tournament, had suffered a back injury during the second ODI in the recently-concluded series against Australia which the Proteas won. He did not take any further part in the series but unfortunately, he now will not be boarding the flight to India. Magala on the other hand, injured his knee in the third game of the series against Australia. Andile Phehlukwayo and Lizaad Williams have been named replacements for these injured players in Temba Bavuma-led side.
