Bulgaria's Svetlana Staneva made an 'X' sign after losing her women's boxing 57kg quarterfinal to Taiwan's Lin Yu-Ting at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Sunday, August 4. Lin Yu-Ting is among the two boxers who have been at the centre of gender controversy at the Paris Olympics 2024 after they failed gender tests last year at the World Championships. The Taiwan boxer beat Staneva 5-0 in the quarterfinal to move to the semifinal and is assured of a medal. After the match, Staneva did not shake hands with Yu Ting and also made the 'X' gesture, which many have said is to denote that she has 'XX' (female) chromosomes.
