Phogat defeated Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 to become the first Indian woman to enter the final of an wrestling event at the Olympics. The ace grappler has been nothing short of spectacular at the Paris Olympics 2024 and among her three wins, one was over the Tokyo Olympics gold medal winner Yui Susaki. Punia, who had won bronze in Tokyo, reacted to her win and said, "Main ye dekh raha hu phone kis time jayega badhayi dene ke liye' (I am waiting for her to get congratulatory call), alluding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has called medal-winning athletes to congratulate them so far.
