Algerian Boxer Imane Khelif was in the news right from the start of her boxing event. She was subjected to a gender eligibility row following her ban from competing in the 2023 boxing world championship. She failed a gender eligibility test administered by the International Boxing Association (IBA) and yet was allowed to participate in the Women’s Boxing event at the Paris Olympics 2024. Many athletes showed ‘no interest’ in fighting against Imane Khelif and even gestured their disagreement over the Olympic committee’s decision. Fans also trolled and targeted Imane on social media posting negative things about the athlete. Yet defying all the ‘odds’ the Algerian boxer went on to win a gold medal in the women's 66 Kg boxing final. After the win, the gold medalist now has decided to take action against the haters and filed a formal legal complaint for ‘online harassment’. Paris Olympics 2024: Boxer Imane Khelif Calls for End to Bullying After Backlash over Gender Misconceptions (Watch Video)
