Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec made the news after winning a silver medal in the Mixed 10 M Air Pistol Shooting event as he competed without any specialised gear. On a similar note, an archer from Chad, Israel Madaye also made the headlines when he competed in the Archery event without any special equipment and protection pads. But he couldn’t recreate Yusuf Dikec’s performance and even shot the lowest score on a shot nearly missing the target ring – one point. Hailing from one of the poorest countries in central Africa, Israel Madaye couldn’t afford any accessories for the sport and was one of the three athletes from the country. Sadly, he was competing against world number one Kim Woo-Jin and lost his round of 32 match with a 6-0 scoreline. But his efforts and courage were applauded by the spectators.
