In a heartwarming moment on Monday, June 17, 105-year-old Virginia "Ginger" Hislop achieved a remarkable milestone by graduating from Stanford University with a master's degree, a journey spanning 83 years. Her educational path began in 1936 with aspirations for a bachelor's in education, which she completed in 1940, followed by plans for a master's degree in education to pursue teaching. However, her studies were interrupted during World War II when her then-boyfriend, George Hislop, was called to serve in the ROTC, leading to their marriage and her departure from campus before completing her final thesis required for the degree. Following her husband's military service, Virginia prioritised family life, postponing her academic ambitions for 83 years. Returning to Stanford decades later, Virginia fulfilled her academic ambition amidst applause and cheers from her family. Stanford University Protest: Pro-Palestinian Protesters Arrested After Taking Over Varsity President’s Office.
