Voice actor Tom Kenny, in a recent event, revealed his thoughts on what he thinks his character SpongeBob SquarePants’ “superpower” is. A video of Tom Kenny while speaking at the 2024 Motor City Comic Con in Detroit has gone viral on social media, where he opened up about the first time he talked about SpongeBob’s neurodivergence with a fan stating, "SpongeBob's kind of on the spectrum too as a character.” He recalled that a person who was on the spectrum came up to him and asked, “Is SpongeBob autistic? Is SpongeBob himself autistic as a character?” He answered yes and continued, “‘You know what? That's his superpower, the same way that’s your superpower.” Back in October 2012, in an interview with Marc Maron's WTF podcast, Kenny spoke about SpongeBob having Autism. Fans worldwide, even those who are autistic, are sharing their wholehearted thoughts on X, thus feeling proud of their own superpowers.
