Mumbai received the first spell of monsoon rains on June 9, 2024, as the southwest monsoon arrived two days ahead of the usual onset date in the city. The India Meteorology Department (IMD) had predicted the onset to take place on June 11 this year. But the pre-monsoon showers came as a respite from the intense heat. IMD has further issued a yellow alert indicating light to moderate spells of rain in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts till June 11, 2024. As the city received its first monsoon spell, social media users took to X and flooded the timeline with Mumbai rains pictures and videos.
