Juneteenth is celebrated every year in the US with parades, marches, events, and concerts. This year again, we celebrate Juneteenth, 2024, on June 19. The word Juneteenth is a blend of the words ‘June’ and 'nineteenth.’ It is the day when the Emancipation Proclamation news finally arrived in Galveston, Texas and the enslaved people were informed of their freedom. On June 19, 1865, slavery ended in America. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation took effect in 1863, many states continued to oppose it. However, the tide changed in 1865, leading to the freedom of the enslaved black community in Texas.
