The Times of India, on September 16, published an article claiming that the Lucknow division of Northern Railway had spent Rs 69.5 lakh to catch 168 rodents over three years, amounting to Rs 41,000 per rodent. The Press Information Bureau (PIB), however, has called out this article. The PIB, in their fact check, found the TOI article misleading. As per the PIB, the cost incurred is preventative in nature. "Cost was for pest control of cockroaches, rodents, bed bugs, mosquitoes, etc., in all coaches maintained at Lucknow Division. The cost was for pest control in an average of 25,000 coaches per year, i.e., around Rs 94 per coach per year, or less than Rs 8 per coach per month, PIB said.
