What is 'Double Sun Halo'?
A 'double sun halo' is a variation of the more common 22-degree halo, in which a bright ring encircles the sun. A halo around the sun is caused by sunlight refracting from ice crystals (which act like prisms and mirrors) in cirrus clouds. The light is bent in different directions and splits into colours.
