Sharad Purnima is marked on the Full Moon day in the Hindu lunisolar month of Ashwin. The date is celebrated as Harvest Festival which marks the end of the monsoon season. People worship Devi Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity on the festival day, and offer flowers and kheer to Her. The observance is also known as Kojagari Lakshmi Puja when deities in shrines are dressed in white colour symbolising the brightness of the moon. Newlywed women, who take a pledge to do Purnimasi fasting for the year, begin the vrat from the day of Sharad Purnima by offering prayers to Lord Chandra. Sharad Purnima 2022 will be observed on Sunday, 9 October.
