Former MP Gopal Shetty has announced that he will file nomination as an Independent from the Borivali seat in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly Elections 2024 hours after BJP announced its third list of 25 nominees, including Mumbai unit general secretary Sanjay Upadhyay, replacing the sitting legislator Sunil Rane, on Monday, October 28. "This is not about me not getting a ticket. I did not ask for a ticket. But party workers suggested my name. One of the local Borivali workers should get a ticket," Gopal Shetty said. Shetty, who was MP in 2014 and 2019, was denied a ticket from North Mumbai in the general elections, replacing the union minister Piyush Goyal. He was a strong contender for the Borivali seat as he had already held a series of deliberations with the state and the Central leaders.
