The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Pune, Maharashtra, recently fined Paytm Rs 12,000 for unreasonably freezing a grocery shopkeeper's Paytm account. The Commission's President, Anil B Jawalekar, and member, Sarita N Patil, stated that although Paytm had unfroze the shopkeeper's account after the complaint was filed, it failed to provide reasons for freezing the account in the first place. In his complaint, the grocery shopkeeper said that his Paytm account, having a balance of Rs 62,633,94, was frozen on June 13, 2022, without reason. After his support tickets and complaints went left unanswered, he approached the consumer court.
