Lok Sabha on Wednesday evening passed the Women's Reservation Bill granting 33% seats to women in the lower house and state legislative assemblies. “as nearly as maybe, one-third (including the seats reserved for women belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) of the total number of seats to be filled by direct election to the House of People shall be reserved for women," the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-eighth Amendment) Bill 2023 reads. The bill was tabled in Lok Sabha today by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal. The bill got a staggering 454 votes in favour, while 2 MPs voted against it.
