In Varanasi, Inspector Parmahans Gupta of the Sarnath police station has been suspended following accusations of seizing cash during a raid on an apartment where businessmen were reportedly gambling. Gupta, accompanied by a man in civilian clothes who claimed to be the Chief Minister’s OSD, allegedly confiscated around 4 million rupees in two bags. CCTV footage shows Gupta and the man leaving the building with the bags, sparking controversy on social media. Following the incident, Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal suspended Gupta and ordered a thorough investigation. Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party criticised the government on social media, saying BJP’s “corruption saga continues.” Reports indicate that Gupta’s civilian companion may be a local journalist.
