On Saturday, May 11, a massive crowd of devotees gathered on the narrow hillside route approaching to Yamunotri in Uttarakhand. Yamunotri is one of the four pilgrimages that make up the 'Char Dham Yatra', along with Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. A day after the gates of the Yamunotri temple in the Garhwal Himalayas were opened to devotees, a large rush of people were observed waiting in lengthy lines for hours. According to reports, the devotees said that they had been waiting on the restricted walkway for almost two hours and that the authorities had not properly considered crowd control and safety.
