In a controversial move, the administration in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, ordered the covering of a mosque and a mazaar (tomb) along the Kanwar Yatra route with curtains. The decision was quickly reversed following public outcry. Initially, the administration had directed the covering of the Islamnagar Mosque near Aryanagar and a shrine and mosque on an elevated bridge in the area. This action came in the wake of recent regional controversies, including disputes over the display of shop nameplates during the Kanwar Yatra. Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat criticised the move, questioning the necessity of such actions. “When there are various temples, mosques, and churches along the way, it reflects India. Are Kanwar yatris so narrow-minded that if the shadow of a religious place of another faith falls on them, they will start avoiding it?” Rawat remarked, as reported by PTI. Uttarakhand: 5 Including Woman Arrested for Selling Ganja to Kanwariyas in Haridwar, Seize 45 kg of Ganja (See Pics).
