The Uttarakhand High Court on Thursday, July 18, granted protection to an inter-religious couple living in a live-in relationship. However, the court asked the couple to register their relationship under the Uniform Civil Code, Uttarakhand, 2024, within 48 hours. It must be noted that people living in Uttarakhand in live-in relationships are required to register before a Registrar within one month of "entering into the relationship" under section 378 of the 2024 Law. In their petition, the couple claimed they are residing together in a live-in relationship, due to which the parents and brother of the girl were extending threats to them.
