A matrimonial celebration turned into a scene reminiscent of a Bollywood drama when a groom’s innocent kiss to bride during the ‘jai mala’ ceremony sparked more fireworks than the wedding itself. The kiss set off a chain reaction of slaps, punches, and chaos, transforming the ‘mandap’ into a wrestling ring. Some even resorted to sticks and batons in the ensuing melee. Videos of the scuffle quickly spread across social media, turning the entire incident into a viral sensation. Hapur ASP Rajkumar Agrawal reported that around 1.30am, the police were summoned to the scene. Six people were detained, booked under CrPC 151 (arrest to prevent the commission of cognisable offences). Five individuals ended up at the hospital, nursing injuries, before being discharged. However, no official complaints have been lodged at the police station. “The marriage ceremony of two sisters was being performed in the Ashok Nagar area of Hapur. While the elder sister’s marriage was peacefully conducted, a conflict was ignited when the younger sister’s groom kissed her on stage,” Agrawal added. Despite the tumultuous events and the families calling off the marriage, the bride and groom remained steadfast in their desire to tie the knot. Elders intervened and initiated discussions, expressing the intention to reschedule the wedding for a later date, which is yet to be decided.
