One of the gates of the Tungabhadra dam was washed away last night due to the snapping of a chain link. Several videos showing water gushing from the Tungabhadra Dam surfaced on social media. In response, a flood alert was sounded in downstream Koppal. Authorities immediately opened five dam gates to alleviate the pressure on the remaining gates. The water level in the reservoir needs to be reduced from 105 TMC to 65-55 TMC to facilitate the repair work on Gate Number 19.
