The Bombay High Court has raised serious concerns over the custodial death of Akshay Shinde, accused in a sexual assault case in Badlapur, questioning the police's claim that the incident was an "encounter." The court noted potential foul play and directed authorities to preserve CCTV footage from the time Shinde was removed from jail until his death at Shivaji Hospital. Police reported that Shinde, while being transported from Taloja jail, snatched a police officer's pistol and fired, injuring three officers before being killed in retaliatory fire. The court, however, found the sequence of events difficult to believe, pointing out that handling a pistol requires strength, which the accused, described as "weak," may have lacked. The High Court was hearing a petition by Shinde's father, alleging the encounter was staged ahead of the Assembly elections. The court also questioned why the police didn't aim at Shinde’s limbs rather than his head, and asked for an impartial probe into the incident. The case will be heard next week. ‘Badla Pura’: Gun-Wielding Devendra Fadnavis Appears on Mystery Poster After Badlapur Rape Accused Akshay Shinde Encounter (See Pic).
