On Saturday, October 19, Supreme Court judge Justice Sanjay Karol shared a grim story of a woman who was made to stay outside her house during her menstruation cycle. Sharing a picture he took in 2023, the photo shows the woman being up under a tent. "This photograph I took in a remote village. This photograph is of a lady who is forbidden to enter her house for those five days when she is suffering a bodily change. This is the India we are living in. We have to reach out to these people," Justice Sanjay Karol said. Although the Supreme Court judge did not reveal where the picture was taken, he referred to remote areas of Bihar and Tripura, which the court system has not yet reached. His comments came at the first International Supreme Court Advocates on Record (SCAORA) Legal Conference. CJI DY Chandrachud Says Derogatory Language Against Women Has No Place in Courtrooms.
