The Supreme Court recently granted bail to a 70-year-old blind man convicted in a cheating and forgery case. The apex court said that the Madhya Pradesh High Court had adopted a "casual approach" in dealing with the convict's plea for suspension of sentence. The vacation bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan also expressed strong displeasure over the Madhya Pradesh High Court's refusal to release the convict named Bherulal despite him completing half of the sentence. The top court also stated that the High Court could have easily considered the convict's plea for suspension of sentence in the first instance by applying the correct principles of law. Counterfeit Currency Case: Supreme Court Rebukes NIA for Four-Year Delay in Trial Resulting in Accused Languishing in Jail, Says ‘Please Do Not Make a Mockery of Justice’.
