Sudha Murty, renowned author and philanthropist, delivered her first speech in Rajya on Tuesday, July 2. Addressing the Upper House of Parliament, she emphasised the need for cervical cancer vaccines for girls aged nine to 14. Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the cervix and is caused by a virus called HPV. Special types of Vaccines can easily prevent the disease. Murty said: "There is a vaccination which is given to girls, between the age of nine to 14, known as a cervical vaccination. If the girls take that, it (cancer) can be avoided." She also called for the tag of World Heritage Site for 57 tourist sites in India.
